Winning Photo:  "Sky Day at London Museum of Art"

Blue Sky Day happens annually during the day of the summer solstice at Trafalgar Square in London, England. This event celebrates aspiring artists, putting their brushes to canvas in a one-day competition. This photograph, taken amid the array of artists, easels and canvases, captures the excitement and activities of the 2008 Blue Sky Day - creating art in front of London’s home of great art, The National Art Gallery.

Stonehenge, an ancient prehistoric monument, located in the English county of Wiltshire, southwest of London, has inspired and mystified observers for centuries. As reportedly stated by the legendary Merlin, "For in these stones is a mystery". Its magnificent stone sentinels stand on the spot where the first monument was constructed around 3000 BC and now has been added to the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites

 

Michael O'Leary's Biography:

Photography, while it has never been Mike O’leary’s means of employment, has been his lifetime avocation. Since the time he discovered his first camera, he has found joy in capturing the world he sees through his lens. He has always had less interest in the technical idiosyncrasies of the medium and more interest in capturing the artistic opportunities that the camera and the subject matter present. It seems to him that a well executed photograph somehow presents a hidden truth frozen in time that we would otherwise too easily miss.
